Standards and Curriculum
Below are links to the Standards for ELA that are vital for every reading teacher in North Carolina. There are also links to the NC Essential Standards for Social Studies and Science. Integration is one component of reading instruction that I highly value and that I think is essential in helping all students achieve reading success. The use of content area texts provides motivation for many students and provides them with access to texts that will support their future growth as readers.
In addition to the standards, I have included a link to the livebinder I created that offers resources for teaching the reading standards in upper grades classrooms. Through the project, I was able to demonstrate an understanding of the standards and related theories through the resources I selected.
